New bucket helps sector become more sustainable

Flower auction Royal FloraHolland works every day with growers and buyers to develop new standardised packaging. The latest innovation, the flower bucket Fc555 reduces chain costs and contributes to sustainability in floriculture.

Thanks to this bucket, the single-use cardboard tray or the multi-use set-up rack Fc596 are no longer needed. This reduces packaging costs and handling at growers, buyers and further down the chain. Less cardboard and transport movements also make the chain more sustainable.

The new packaging was developed together with FPC Gerbera and other product groups. Both FPC president Dick Kooij of Gerbera United, and Holstein Flowers welcome the arrival of the Fc555: ‘This bucket provides the basis for further sustainability and optimisation of automation.’

With the ground size of the small bucket Fc566 and the height of the large bucket Fc577/Fc588, the new flower bucket Fc555 combines several advantages in one. A market test among growers and buyers shows that the Fc555 can provide optimisation not only for Gerbera, but also for other product groups. The new bucket is especially suitable for products with a length of 50 to 65 cm, but in combination with the Fc596 extension rack, also for flowers of 70 cm and longer.

Phased introduction starts in spring 2026

Preparations for the new flower bucket Fc555 are in full swing. Production will start in autumn 2025. To ensure a smooth introduction and sufficient availability, a phased introduction per product group is chosen. The Gerbera product group is expected to be the first to switch to the Fc555, starting in spring 2026.
