We grow gerberas with geothermal energy

Holstein Flowers has been partly heating its greenhouses with sustainable geothermal energy from Trias Westland since November 2020. Geothermal energy is a very environmentally friendly way to generate heat.

At a depth of 2.5 kilometers there is water with a temperature of approximately 85˚C. The energy in this warm water is called "geothermal energy". The hot water is pumped up and used to heat the greenhouses. The cooled water then goes back into the soil where it is heated again by the earth's core. Geothermal energy is a clean and sustainable alternative to fossil energy. With geothermal energy, we can grow our gerberas even more sustainably. Read all about our active environmental policy here
